Our Pilates Class Guide

At The Reformery, we love all versions of Pilates While the machines use spring-based resistance and the Mat uses your own body weight; all our classes are designed to tone, lengthen, and strengthen your body however each offers a slightly different experience

  • The Vibe: Flow, coordination, and constant movement.

  • How it works: You sit, stand, or lie on a moving platform, or carriage that glides back and forth.

  • The Challenge: Because you are on a moving surface, your body has to work to keep you stable.

  • Choose this if: You love a sense of flow and want to improve your overall coordination and core stability.

Why we love it…

It’s the ultimate multi-tasker. There is something incredibly satisfying about the smooth, gliding motion of the carriage—it makes you feel like you're dancing while you're building serious strength. We love it because the springs provide a unique kind of support that allows you to work through a full range of motion, making it accessible for beginners but endlessly challenging for advanced students.

REFORMER

  • The Vibe: Precision, stretch, and deep strengthening.

  • How it works: Unlike the Reformer, your base is stationary, stable surface. With springs attached to a vertical frame.

  • The Challenge: It’s incredible for spine mobility, deep stretching, and targeting specific muscle groups.

  • Choose this if: You want to feel "grounded," focus on your alignment, or if you really enjoy a deep, controlled stretch.

Why we love it…

It’s the secret weapon for a healthy spine. The Tower offers a sense of length that you just can’t get anywhere else. Because the springs are independent, they quickly highlight any imbalances between sides, increasing your core stability and proprioception. We love it because it combines the deep, juicy stretches of a mobility session with the targeted toning of a strength class.

TOWER

  • The Vibe: Authentic, challenging, and empowering.

  • How it works: No machines here—just you, a mat, and occasionally small props like balls, circles, or bands. You use your own body weight as resistance.

  • The Challenge: Don’t be fooled by the lack of equipment. Without springs to assist or resist you, your muscles have to do all the work. Mat Pilates is the ultimate test of core strength and body awareness.

  • Choose this if: You want to learn the foundations of Pilates, improve your posture, and develop a level of body control that carries over into everyday life.

Why we love it…
Mat is the purest form of the Joseph Pilates method. Not only is it an all in one class, it’s the perfect complementary class to a regular reformer or tower practice too.

Barre is based on ballet training exercises traditionally performed at the barre. Expect small pulsing movements, focusing on alignment and precision.
Barre and jumpboard will be weaved into Flow and Advanced Flow classes.
